Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal
Founder

Company Name: Flipkart

Sachin and Binny Bansal are the co-founders of Flipkart, India largest e-commerce company which is growing in its field. Both born in India Sachin in Bangalore in 1961 and Binny in Chandigarh in 1983. They both shared a passion for technology and entrepreneurship from an early age. Their journey represents hardwork, consistency and passion for their work.

Both Sachin and Binny worked at Amazon before starting Flipkart. In 2007, they co-founded Flipkart in Bangalore, starting as an online bookstore operated from Sachin Bansal’s apartment. Their focus was on providing valuable experience to the customers. Their hands-on approach—packing books, managing logistics, and personally interacting with customers—helped the company build trust and credibility.

Under their leadership, Flipkart diversified into electronics, fashion, and lifestyle products, eventually becoming India’s largest e-commerce platform. Innovations such as Cash on Delivery, easy returns, and deep discounts revolutionized online shopping in India, making it accessible and convenient for millions. The company raised funding from global investors and attracted attention for its rapid growth and market dominance.

Building Flipkart was not easy because it was lacking consumer trust. At that time people were hesitant to shop online or make digital payments. They came with an idea of introducing cash on delivery (COD) which helped to grow business rapidly.

In 2018, Walmart acquired a majority stake in Flipkart in one of India’s biggest startup deals. Sachin exited the company, while Binny stayed on briefly before stepping down.

Their journey is a powerful example of vision, resilience, and innovation—turning a small startup into a billion-dollar enterprise.

Ans. Focus on solving real problems rather than chasing trends. Be patient, success comes with consistency and hard work. Build a strong team and stay focused and adaptable because markets evolve quickly.

Ques. What was the most challenging phase in your business journey?

Ans. The early days were the toughest. Limited funds, building logistics from scratch, and convincing customers to trust online shopping. But those struggles helped us to build a strong foundation and resilience as entrepreneurs.
