Deepinder Goyal was born in Punjab and he completed his education in mathematics and computing from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. During his college he started gaining analytical and problem-solving skills. He started building his career in technology-driven company.

After graduating, he joined Bain & Company as a consultant. This job gave him valuable exposure to business operations and market behavior.

The Idea Behind Zomato

You must be thinking business idea comes from bigger things. But the idea of business always comes from small problems. The idea for Zomato came from a common office problem. Deepinder noticed that his colleagues struggled with ordering food because the menus of the restuarants was not available easily.

Seeing this challenge, made him identify an opportunity. He started by uploading restaurant menus online so people could easily browse food options before ordering. This simple solution quickly gained popularity.

Building Zomato

In 2008, Deepinder, co-founded Zomato, initially under the name Foodiebay. The platform focused on helping users discover restaurants, menus, and reviews. As the business expanded, the company rebranded as Zomato.

Building the company was full of risk but he was determined to make the impossible happen. Like many startups, Zomato faced funding challenges, market competition, and operational hurdles.

Deepinder Goyal’s journey shows that great business comes from small ideas and observations. His ability to identify a problem and find a solution for it has transformed the food-tech industry in India. His story teaches an important lesson success comes to those who stay curious, solve real problems, and keep moving forward despite challenges.
