Alessandro Nora, born in 1998, completed high school one year early in the United States and went on to study economics at ESCP Business School. During his final year in Berlin, at the age of 20, he co-founded Sitaly, a marketplace for sustainable lifestyle products. This first entrepreneurial journey was marked by ambition, experimentation, and resilience, and ended with the company’s sale in 2023, leaving him with a significant wealth of learnings.
It was in this context that he came face to face with the complexity of collecting ESG data across manufacturing supply chains, identifying a structural problem: corporate ESG processes are fragmented, costly, and inefficient, making sustainability more of a cost than a true competitive advantage.
This awareness led to the vision behind Metrikflow, of which he is co-founder and CEO: a platform that, through artificial intelligence and automation, enables companies to collect ESG data, calculate environmental metrics, analyze supply chains, and generate reports automatically. Today, Metrikflow is used by more than 150 companies worldwide, including Balocco, Yokohama TWS, Macron, Corneglia, Comau, Fratelli Orsero, and Syngenta Bioscience. While its commercial development is mainly focused on Italy, Metrikflow is already used globally. The platform, available in 6 languages, is designed to be accessible across different markets, including those where ESG technologies are emerging more slowly, enabling companies to automate up to 78% of ESG activities.
To support its international development, Metrikflow has built a highly specialized team, with environmental and technological expertise distributed across Europe, the Middle East, and South America, backed by over €610,000 in funding raised from investors such as Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, and Apside.
The Problem That Sparked an Idea
Before founding Metrikflow, Alessandro had already built experience as an entrepreneur, including working in sustainable fashion and climate-focused ventures. These experiences gave him firsthand exposure to the gap between sustainability ambition and operational execution.
Many companies wanted to reduce emissions and improve ESG reporting there reality was difficult. Data was scattered across departments, reporting requirements kept evolving, and compliance processes were heavily manual.
Alessandro realized that the biggest barrier was not willingness but complexity.
He saw a massive opportunity to make sustainability measurable, accessible, and actionable through technology.
The Struggle: Building Trust in a New Market
Starting a climate-tech company came with major challenges. One of the biggest challenges was building the platform from the right angle. At the time, many ESG regulations were still evolving and moving in different directions, so it was challenging in the beginning to make the right product decisions and create a solution that would remain useful within a changing regulatory landscape.
When Metrikflow was launched in Berlin in 2022, ESG software was still an emerging category for many industrial businesses. Companies often relied on spreadsheets, consultors, or outdated manual systems. Convincing them to adopt a new digital platform required education, trust-building, and patience Like many founders, Alessandro also faced the challenge of limited resources in the early stages of his entrepreneurial journey.
Building Metrikflow from Vision to Reality
Together with his co-founders, Alessandro transformed that vision into Metrikflow—an ESG and compliance software platform designed to simplify sustainability management for industrial companies.
The company helps businesses monitor emissions, automate ESG reporting, improve compliance, and identify opportunities for decarbonization. Instead of treating sustainability as a burden, Metrikflow enables organizations to use it as a strategic advantage.
Under Alessandro’s leadership, the startup gained traction, supporting companies across multiple sectors and helping them streamline complex ESG workflows.
Shaping the Future of Sustainable Business
