
Meta AI data center Texas project has received a massive boost as the company increases its investment to $10 billion. This move highlights Meta’s growing focus on artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Meta platforms are making big in AI. AI ambitions with $10 billion Texas data center push amid layoffs and legal pressure. Meta made a statement on Thursday that it is increasing investmnet in its EI Paso, Texas AI data center to $10 billion, more than six times its original commitment. The company aims to achieve a 1-gigawatt capacity before the facility is expected to open in 2028.
In October, Meta had planned to invest $1.5 billion in the El Paso data center, which will be its 29th facility worldwide and its third in Texas.
Major Tech companies such as Meta, Amazon, Alphabet and Microsoft are trying their best to build AI infrastructure and are projected to spend over $630 billion to build AI infrastructure this year.
The EI Paso will help to create 300 new jobs once operational, with 3,000 construction workers expected at peak construction, Meta said it in a blog.
Meta platforms also stated that it has secured projects that will add more than 5,000 megawatts of clean energy to Texas’s power grid. It will help in reducing the pressure to water resourcing by doing partnerships with other specialized non profits to supply fresh water to the region.
Meta has laid off around 700 employees across multiple teams on monday. The earlier reports show that the company was preparing for large scale job to boost the workforce.
