Why Iran attacked on Amazon Data Centre in Bahrain and UAE?
Iranian drone strikes on Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centres in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain have directly destroyed the higher education sector by critically disabling its infrastructure.
On 1, March 2026 the strikes hit two AWS data centres in UAE and Bahrain that caused damage to the infrastructure. power outages, and fire and water damage, leading to prolonged service disruptions, according to the AWS health dashboard.
According to reports, Iranian drones struck multiple sites across the Gulf region, including facilities associated with Amazon Web Services (AWS). On the other hand, two data centres got direct hits in UAE while one in Bahrain.
Experts suggest that it is one of the first known instances of a physical military attack on commercial data centres, highlighting their growing importance in global operations.
